Sarah Klopf, Project Conservator

I am responsible for external client work and externally funded museum projects.  At the moment this mainly involves working on archaeological objects such as Roman iron fittings and Iron Age ceramics. These objects are brought in by commercial Archaeological Contractors.

Currently I am working on water-logged leather and wood that was excavated at St. Loyes College in Exeter and a clog which was found during repair work along the Tiverton Canal.

A museum project I am part of is the conservation of our Greek and Cypriot Collection which mainly involves the treatment of ceramics. We have written about our work in the Leventis blog which you can find online.

I am also involved in collection care projects such as improving storage for objects and the supervision of student placements and volunteers helping us in the conservation labs.

Address: Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery, Queen Street, Exeter EX4 3RX

Originally from Germany I studied conservation and restoration of archaeological objects and decorative arts at the University of Applied Sciences in Erfurt, Germany, from 2006 to 2011. During my course I had to do several placements one of which was with RAMM in 2009.

I came back in 2010 to write my dissertation at the museum and after graduating started as a Museum Assistant. In 2012 I went back to Germany to work as a conservator there. In 2013 I was able to return to RAMM as a project conservator.
